After Effects CC 2022: How To Add Multiple Strokes

Description:
This tutorial will show you how to add multiple stroke effects on Shape Layers in Adobe After Effects CC 2022 to create a ‘digital sticker’ look. In this tutorial, add a text layer and convert it to shapes and then apply 3 different Stroke properties.

How To Add Multiple Strokes in Adobe After Effects CC 2022:

  1. Add Text (Cmd/Ctrl + T)
  2. Align to Center of Comp using Align Panel
  3. Right-click on the Text OutlinesLayer
  4. Select ‘Convert Text to Shapes’
  5. Delete Original Text Layer (optional)
  6. Click on the Selection Tool (V) in the top left corner
  7. Open Shape Layer and click on individual letters to select
  8. Nudge letters using the arrow keys to add some design interest (optional)
  9. Select Outlines Layer or click on ‘Contents’ just above the letters
  10. Click the button ‘Add’ and select Stroke
  11. Repeat Adding Strokes 2 more times or duplicate the Stroke using Cmd/Ctrl + D
  12. Twirl Open Stroke #1
  13. Change Stroke Width from 2 to 25
  14. Click on Eyedropper to change Stroke Color
  15. Change Line Cap to ‘Butt Cap’
  16. Change Line Join to ‘Round Join’
  17. Twirl Open Stroke #2
  18. Change Stroke Width from 25 to 65
  19. Click on Eyedropper to change Stroke Color
  20. Change Line Cap to ‘Butt Cap’
  21. Change Line Join to ‘Round Join’
  22. Twirl Open Stroke #3
  23. Change Stroke Width from 65 to 100
  24. Click on Eyedropper to change Stroke Color
  25. Change Line Cap to ‘Butt Cap’
  26. Change Line Join to ‘Round Join’
  27. Add as many additional strokes as you want and keep increasing Stroke Width
