After Effects CC 2022: How To Add Mood Lighting (Amorphous Effect)

This tutorial will show you how to add the Mood Lighting-Amorphous Effect to give your footage some subtle ambient light effects in Adobe After Effects CC 2022. This effect works great to add some movement and lighting to still images or to create a Cinemegraph effect (still image with one part moving)

How To Add Mood Lighting-Amorphous Effect:

  1. Add Footage to Composition
  2. Go to Effects & Presets Panel (Window…Effects & Presets)
  3. Search for Mood Lighting
  4. Select Mood Lighting-Amorphous and drag it onto the footage layer
  5. Go to Effect Controls and customize parameters
  6. In this tutorial, I changed the Intensity to 25% and kept the rest of the default settings


How To Create Cinemegraph Effect:

  1. Add Footage to Composition
  2. Duplicate Layer 
  3. Go to Effects & Presets Panel (Window…Effects & Presets)
  4. Search for Mood Lighting
  5. Select Mood Lighting-Amorphous and drag it onto the TOP footage layer
  6. Select Pen Tool (G) and click around the TOP footage layer where you want the mood lighting only 
  7. Go to Effect Controls and customize parameters
  8. In this tutorial, I changed the Intensity to 25% and kept the rest of the default settings
  9. Select TOP footage layer and tap M for Masks
  10. Click drop-down and change to ‘Add’
