his tutorial will show you how to create a looping paper texture animation in Adobe After Effects CC 2022 that you can use as a background or overlay over graphics and change the blend mode to add some grit and movement.
Note:
There are many different techniques to create looping textures. This is only one technique that is fast and easy.
Keyboard Shortcuts:
Move Forward 2 Frames:
Press Cmd/Ctrl + Right Arrow Key

How To Create Looping Paper Texture Animation:
- Create new Composition (1920 x 1080, 5 secs, 30 fps)
- Add Paper Texture
- Scale Texture up so it is bigger than Comp Size (if necessary)
- Tap P to open Position Property
- Click the Stopwatch to add a keyframe
- Press the Cmd or Ctrl key and tap the right arrow key two times (to move CTI forward 2 frames)
- With the Selection Tool as the cursor (V), click on the Paper Texture and move it in any direction
- Press the Cmd or Ctrl key and tap the right arrow key two times (to move CTI forward 2 frames)
- Click on the Paper Texture and move it in any direction
- Press the Cmd or Ctrl key and tap the right arrow key two times (to move CTI forward 2 frames)
- Click on the Paper Texture and move it in any direction
- You should now have 4 Position Keyframes
- Select and copy the first keyframe (Cmd/Ctrl + C)
- Move forward from the 4th keyframe 2 frames (Cmd/Ctrl + >)
- Paste the Keyframe (Cmd/Ctrl + V)
- Select all 5 Keyframes
- Right-click and select Keyframe Assistant
- Select ‘Toggle Hold Keyframes’ and click to convert all 5 keyframes to Toggle Hold Keyframes
How To Loop Texture Endlessly:
- Press the Option or Alt Key and click on the Position Property Stopwatch
- Type loopOut()
- Press the Spacebar to Preview the animation
How To Change the Speed of the Texture Animation:
- Press Spacebar to preview the animation
- Tap U to bring up all of the keyframes
- Select all keyframes
- Press the Option or Alt key (this will space out the keyframes proportionately)
- Drag to the right to increase the space between the keyframes and slow down the animation
- Drag to the left to decrease the space between the keyframes to speed up the animation
- Press the Spacebar to Preview
- Select the Comp Window and press the Tilde Key (~) to preview in Full Screen
