Everyone has ups and downs, there is no avoiding it. Whether it’s in life or business, we all go through periods of highs and lows. We tend to dwell on the lows more and they are the hardest to get out of. Starting a business, blog or a new hobby is similar. You come out of the gates on top of the world and nothing can stop you. Then you actually start the work and it might not be as exciting as you thought or it is harder than you expected. Then the excitement starts dwindling and then that amazing idea becomes a heavy weight on your back dragging you down. It happens to most people and there is a simple solution. Keep making things and moving forward and it will get easier. Pay attention to your feelings and what brings you happiness while doing something. Do more of that. Don’t focus on things others are doing well or that you think you should be doing because the internet is trending that way. Do what you do without even thinking about it, because nobody else can do it like you.
It took months of dabbling and making things and talking with others and listening to realize that I have wanted to have my own podcast for years now and I just squashed the idea much like why I haven’t written a book yet. I’m waiting until I have a good topic or my voice is not good enough or people are already doing what I like, so why bother. Then someone made me understand that being me is all I need to do and that I already have the technical skills and know-how to help people. Now I just need to get my voice out there.
If you are interested in learning the tools of the trade and go behind the scenes of a home-based podcast and blogger’s studio, Mike Murphy Unplugged launches Friday 9/18/15.
