Adobe Audition CC 2022: How To Insert Silence

This tutorial will show you how to Insert Silence (Blank Space) in Adobe Audition CC 2022 and how to create a keyboard shortcut. Insert Silence can be used to create a pause or blank spaces in an audio recording to re-record or add additional recordings.
Insert Silence For Podcasters:
- Use Insert Silence to create a pause in a dialogue that is too close together
- Use Insert Silence when you discover you forgot to say something in your original recording
- Use Insert Silence to create gaps or segments to serve as visual cues for your editor
- Use Insert Silence when you think of additional points you want to add to your episode
Insert Silence Duration:
Type a number of seconds followed by a comma or period for the duration of empty space or silence
- 5, = 5 seconds
- 10. = 10 seconds
- 120, = 2 minutes

How To Insert Silence (Waveform Editor):
- Record or Open audio clip in the Waveform Editor
- Drag CTI (Playhead) to where you want to insert silence or empty space
- Go to the Edit Menu at the top
- Click on ‘Insert’
- Click on ’Silence’
- Enter duration time in the dialog box (number of seconds followed by a comma)
- Click in the Waveform to deselect
- Drag CTI to the beginning of the gap to start recording
- Insert more silence if necessary
How To Insert Silence (Multitrack Editor):
- Create a new Multitrack Session (Cmd/Ctrl + N)
- Drag audio onto tracks
- Drag CTI (Playhead) to where you want to insert silence or empty space
- Go to the Edit Menu at the top
- Click on ‘Insert’
- Click on ’Silence’
- Enter duration time in the dialog box (number of seconds followed by a comma)
- Silence or Gaps will be created for all Tracks with Clips
How To Create A Keyboard Shortcut for Insert Silence:
- Click on ‘Edit’ in the top menu
- Click on ‘Keyboard Shortcuts’
- Select ‘Custom’ in the Keyboard Layout Preset drop-down menu
- Go to the Search field below the keyboard layout
- Type ‘Insert Silence’
- Click in the Shortcut Column next to the ‘Insert Silence’ entry
- Type your preferred keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + i)
- Click ‘OK’
- Your new keyboard shortcut will appear in the Edit Menu next to Insert Silence and can be used in both the Waveform & Multitrack Editors
