Description:
This tutorial will show you how to create an authentic crumpled paper texture animation in Adobe After Effects CC 2024 for a stop-motion or hand-drawn look.

Keyboard Shortcuts:
V: Selection Tool (move position of textures)
W: Rotation Tool (rotate textures)
S: Scale (change scale of layers)
Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + D: Split Layers
Cmd/Ctrl + Right Arrow (move CTI one frame at at time)

How To Crumple Paper & Scan:

  1. Take any piece of paper you want to animate as background
  2. Crumple paper & then open so it can be placed on scanner or photographed
  3. Take photo and AirDrop or send to computer or,
  4. Scan using 600 dpi and save as JPEG

How To Import Crumpled Paper Texture:

  1. Open After Effects
  2. Create New Composition (Cmd/Ctrl + N)
  3. Composition Settings: 1920×1080, 24fps, 5 seconds
  4. Double-click on empty space in Project Panel to open Finder/Explorer
  5. Select Paper texture file scanned to computer
  6. Click ‘Open’
  7. Drag Texture on Composition

How To Animate Crumpled Paper Texture:

  1. Select Layer
  2. Tap Cmd/Ctrl + Right Arrow 4 times to move CTI 4 frames
  3. Press Shift + Cmd/Ctrl + D to split layers
  4. Repeat until there are 12 layers (or however many you want)
  5. Press N to set Work Area on the last frame
  6. Go to bottom layer
  7. Tap V for Selection Tool and move layer position
  8. Tap W for Rotation Tool and change the rotation of layer
  9. Repeat randomly changing position and rotation for each layer
  10. Tap Spacebar to Preview Animation

Finishing Touches:

  1. Add Adjustment Layer
  2. Add Posterize Time Effect (fps to 4)
  3. Add CC Vignette Effect to darken edges
  4. Add Grain (uncheck color noise, set to 10%)
  5. Add Text & Graphics (Hand-drawn Effect)
