I write this to make you smile. Make you forget about anything that may be troubling or overwhelming you. Do things that make you happy. Your happiness is different than mine. Once you realize what makes you happy, do more of it. It’s not as complicated as we make it.
Hope you enjoy this video of Taylor Goldsmith from Dawes singing ‘A Little Bit of Everything.’ The lyrics of this song are powerful. They can be interpreted many ways as most great songs usually can. What do these lyrics mean to you? Do you feel overwhelmed in life? Are you stuck in a rut and feel like you are never going to get unstuck? Do you feel like life and work are pulling at you from all angles and you just don’t see how you are going to fix it all. Is it a little bit of everything that is making you feel like you are living a life that is making you sad or angry or frustrated? Or do the lyrics make you feel happy and hopeful? They do to me. Everyone goes through tough times and everyone experiences sadness or loss, but life goes on and it is up to you to create happiness. Pile on the mash potatoes and get an extra chicken wing because life gives us a little bit of everything. Your comfort food is different than mine and that’s a good thing. We are all unique, embrace it. We must also be okay with knowing our comfort food is not always going to be in front of us. We need sadness in order to experience happiness, we need to be lonely in order to appreciate others and we need to be okay with failing so we know how to get back up, because it’s going to happen many times in anyone’s life. Failing is the easy part, it’s getting back up that reaps the rewards in business and in life.
Many creatives and entrepreneurs try to figure out their business in one fell swoop by taking a class or webinar, or buying more gear and get frustrated when the return on investment is not as expected. Believe me, I understand, but this is all part of the learning process. It takes time and hard work and it takes a little bit of everything to figure it all out. Do not feel frustrated because the experts and online marketers are telling you the right way you should do things and that they understand how you feel. They don’t. They are all right and all wrong. If you are unsure what your passion or talent is or what you should be focusing on right now, it’s okay. Your voice is not something you find, it is something you develop through practice, hard work and failure. Your business or podcast or videos you make are never good at first. Watch this video if you don’t believe me. It takes time, experience and lots of practice and mixed in between all of these things are the tough things in life like failure, frustration and overwhelm. You don’t need to figure it out all at once as it takes a long time to become an overnight success.

The more I write my tagline, Learn, Create & Move Forward, the more I realize how it applies to every part of my life. My comfort food is learning. Creating is where I experience the ups and downs. It’s in the creating stage that makes me doubt my abilities or makes me think I’m not good enough or makes me frustrated that there are so many talented people out there and I wish I was more like them. But you know what, I keep making things and I am slowly starting to see my hard work pay off. I’m not afraid to hit publish anymore. I’m okay with putting myself out there. This is the moving forward part of the cycle because hitting publish resets the clock and you have to go back and do it all over again. And each time you complete the cycle you get better. Why should we expect this to be an easy process? Like everything else, the more you work at something the easier it gets. Your online journey or podcast or dream of writing a book or getting published in a gallery will get easier the more you create and put your work out to the world.
It takes a little bit of everything to get to where you want to go, but as long as you keep moving forward and put in the work required by everyone who wants to make a dent in the universe, things will get better and you will find your comfort zone.
